Let’s Start Over

I’ve been running for 5+ years.  I’ve participated in two dozen running races, all but two were half or full marathons.  So now it’s time to start over.  This Sunday will be my very first triathlon.  I mentioned way back in January that I signed up for The Rookie Triathlon.  Now that it’s finally here, I’m ready for it.

I haven’t put a ton of work into training, but I’ve definitely restructured how my workouts look and feel.  It’s game time, so to speak, and I can’t wait.  As far as a goal, I’ve run the numbers and I’m looking for something around 1:05 (one hour five minutes).

To remind you, it’s a 300 meter swim, 11 mile bike, 2 mile run.  I came up with the bright idea to base my goal on how my training has gone:

Event Estimate
Swim 7:00
Bike 38:00
Run 15:00

Then there are transition times, and for those I have no idea. I threw in a ballpark of five minutes total between the two transitions.  So, all told, that’s 7 + 38 + 15 + 5, or 1:05.  I won’t be upset if I’m over that; I just wanted to have a number in mind when starting out to see how effective my training has been.  Wish me luck and I’ll see you on the flip side.

You’re going to get hooked! If you haven’t already done so, lay your stuff out like you will race day, and practice going through each transition. It’s a helpful way to pack as well. (I rarely forget things when I do this) Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks Amy! I had a lot of fun and already looking into what race I should target next. I took your advice and it made the morning go a lot smoother 🙂
