Short Bus Subs Spices Things Up

I’ll keep this brief.  I’ve visited Short Bus Subs many times now, always impressed by their educationally humorous (yet appropriate) named offerings.  Instead of my usual Summer Vacation, my most recent visit for lunch took me to a new-to-me sandwich that left me reaching for water after every bite.  Saying it was spicy is an understatement.

All of their chicken sandwiches fall under the category of The Mascot with varying accompaniments.  I’ve enjoyed the Chicken Parmesan-inspired Marinara several times, but I like spicy food and that’s exactly what I was in the mood for.  Keeping with The Mascot this time Jalapeño style.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to snap a good picture of a Short Bus Subs sub in all the times I’ve visited, but really that’s ok.  As the saying goes, it’s what’s on the inside that counts.  Inside this toasty marvel is chicken, cheddar cheese, jalapeños, bus-made homemade chipotle sauce, lettuce, and tomato.  I got the inside scoop that the chipotle sauce is made simply with yogurt and chipotles in adobo.

Like I said before, from the very first bite you get punched with the heat.  The jalapeños combined with the chipotle sauce almost take things too high on the spicy meter.  Almost.  Just when you think it’s too much; that you can’t take anymore, you get a reprieve from the cooling lettuce and tomato.  The cheese works its magic on your tastebuds to extinguish the fire, setting you up for another round of burning-turned-bearable.  It’s a hot one for sure, but if you like spicy, you’ll appreciate the fact that they don’t pull any punches.  This is not a sandwich intended to please the masses.  Instead it’s targeted at those with tongues of steel or a propensity for self-inflicted pain.  Either way, you have been warned.  Now go get a sandwich!
