Hello, My Lone Faithful Readers,
I feel like we have forged a strong relationship over the last 18 months and I want to share something personal with you — something known only to those who I hold very near and dear to me I think would care. As I am sure you have guessed, running is a bit of a hobby. I dabble. But it is not the final frontier.
“What!? What is this nonsensical nonsense?” you exclaim.
Well, my friends, fear not. Running will still be a part of the master plan; it just might have two friends to tag along (which is more than I can say for myself…). I realize I still haven’t said what I’m saying, so I’ll say it right after I finish saying this.
With an upcoming marathon in February — my 10th in fact — I’m feeling a bit worn out. Perhaps it’s the long runs, the short nights of sleep, or the pressure to appear humble even though I crushed Colin in San Antonio. Who can know? No matter the reason, I am thinking a change of gears is just what doctor ordered. And with that, I intend to venture into the world of triathlons.
Now, I don’t intend to change this blog to “Will Tri to Eat” or anything like that*(though I did consider changing to SwimMikeRun and still might). I am simply shifting my plan from “run, run, run” to “swim, bike, run”.
Warning: Things might get a bit serious (almost): Self-reflecting a bit, I suppose my ultimate goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon still thrives. And perhaps this new track will help me get there faster. My new, relatively short-term goal is the Ironman 70.3 Austin in October 2011. I’m confident if I put my mind to it blah blah blah and all that. I really think, similar to the seemingly unobtainable Boston goal, my goal is to complete a full Ironman. But that’s a long way off**.
I’m excited for the uncharted territory; to see how my running experience will carry over into other sports; and to find another sport where I can beat Colin***. I’ll be posting more (hopefully) about the swimming and biking which should triple increase my readership! So join me, won’t you? on this adventure into this new frontier. Onward!
*It would only make me sound anorexic anyway.
**and requires approval from the boss (read: Ev).
***by default if he doesn’t ever race.
PS- Heck yea I made that sick logo. Don’t tell me your socks weren’t rocked. Microsoft Word ftw.
I think you will be owning the triathlon best times for quite some time. However I will be sure that my 5th marathon time is better than the one you ran in your 9th…
You can talk to the talk, but can you run the run? Let’s hold off on all this 5th vs. 9th until the results come in.
