An (Un)Important Decision

This will be brief. As I’ve mentioned (and mentioned (and mentioned)), I’m considering running the National Half Marathon on March 20th. Currently, the one factor holding me back is cost. Here’s the breakdown:

PRO CON
No Travel $93 Registration
Finisher’s Medal $93 Registration
Great Sense of Accomplishment $93 Registration
Meet Up with Old Friend Wake Up Early on a Saturday

And there you have it. A pretty unimportant decision to be made, and

Isn’t the site called ‘run for the medal’? I think if you let $93 outweigh the pro of getting a medal by itself, not to mention the other pros, then you should probably rename your blog ‘run for the medal (provided that it is not too expensive and that you can put a price tag on a great sense of accomplishment)’.

I’ve made my point, and I will not be voting. Perhaps you could try:

‘run for the medal (provided that it is not too expensive and that you can put a price tag on a great sense of accomplishment, unless public opinion overwhelms me into doing something that I have previously indicated that i usually do without outside motivation and despite me spending much of my free time trying to improve my own personal records through hard work and self discipline, I now question my motivation and therefore my very existence)’

You left off a significant pro: Getting to run through downtown DC…in the middle of the road. When else do you get to run through red lights in the district with no fear of 5-0? Despite all the pros though, that’s a lot of clams for 90 minutes. I vote you go scientific with the decision and flip a coin. Not just once though; flip it 7 times. That way it’ll feel somewhat ‘meant-to-be’ when you decide. All of the most important decisions in history were made this way. Trust me.
